Dude, We're On Fire

Not Really.

But, the mountain is.

This evening has been full of excitement,
and sadness.
An out of control brush fire has evacuated some 1500 homes in Herriman.
So far, at least 4 homes have been destroyed.
It started at Camp Williams this afternoon,
and in a matter of ONE hour we watched it crest the mountain,
and race down towards the homes.
It was mesmerizing,
humbling,
and surreal.
We are fine, and grateful to be safe from any immediate threat.
But, the wind is HOWLING outside,
and that is not good for the fire fighters,
or the homeowners that have been evacuated.
I pray the night is uneventful for us and our neighborhood.

I caught these pictures with my friend's amazing camera.
I didn't have a tripod, hence the blurriness.
But, it does capture the effect pretty well.

If you look closely, you can see a small patch of fire in the top
right hand corner also...

In this one you can see fire on the left side of that garage,
above the trees...that shows how large the line of fire is.

This one was taken from the roof. The lights under the fire
are the cars evacuating.

And, if you want to see some even more amazing pictures
of the fire go HERE. (All credit goes to Jason Skowronek for these!)

Yikes! Dad told me about it last night. Does it smell like smoke badly at your place?

Glad it's far from you. I hope it gets under control soon.
