The day I fell off the face of the earth...

...was Sunday.

But before that,
A small short:
(You know, like the one's you watch before that cool Disney movie in the theater?)

Audrey started Kindergarten last Friday...Hooray!
She was bored to the bones,
with all of her friends already back to school.
And, the day was a huge success!
Except for the part where I thought I was supposed to pick her up at 10:45am,
but it was really 10:30am.
So I was 15 minutes late,
and they were calling every number they had
to let me know I had won "Mother of the YEAR!"
That's right people.
First day, and I was late.
Awesome.
At least she looked cute!

And now for your feature presentation:

Sunday:

It was a Sunday like any other.
Church, lunch, naps, DELICIOUS dinner at mom's, home, bed.
Until I was awakened at 2am,
with the worst stomach pains I have ever had in the history of my life.
Next came the ralphing, and then...
well, you know, the other stuff.
And, there was no sleeping,
because the pain never stopped.
Around 6am, I dozed off for a couple of hours...

Monday:

When I woke up, stars in heaven,
the pain was still there.
Happy Labor Day to me!
It was spent in bed,
no eating,
some drinking,
and half delirious phone calls with anyone I could call
that would re-assure me I was on the mend,
the downhill slope,
almost over it. Please?!
(You see, I was blaming food poisoning as the culprit of my misery)
There was also dozing,
and laying as still as possible,
wishing I would just pass out,
and not feel whatever was happening in the stomach area.

Tuesday:

Somehow I got Audrey ready for school,
and then Lauren.
And then the shaking started.
Uncontrollable shivering.
I was spiking a fever...it was 104,
and I was ralphing again.
My friend just happened to call
(coincidence? I think not)
and came right over.
Her exact words were, "We're going to the Instacare now."
And, I was in no condition to argue.
Two-and-a-half hours later,
and two bags of IV fluids later...
Adam and I walked out of the Instacare.
I was dehydrated, badly.
(no kidding?)
But, now I felt twice as good as I did when I walked in.
(which really wasn't that good)
I ran a fever for the rest of the day,
but was keeping fluids down,
and the stomach pains were starting to come and go,
instead of being my constant companion.
I think this was my first day back on Earth,
but just on the tip of Antarctica.
Couldn't ask for more at that point.

Wednesday and Thursday:

Stomach pains all but gone,
fever coming and going.
SOOO tired! And sore!
My tummy feels like it's been in a vice grip for 4 days.
I spend the days cleaning my house...as best I could.
Because I'm afraid what I had will descend upon my family.
I imagine I traveled all the way up to the area of Venezuela those two days.

What did I have?
I have been asking myself this for 5 days.
I thought it was food poisoning...at first.
Now, who knows.
Rumor has it there's a terrible flu going around
that lasts about 5 days.
I guess that could be it?
But, it wasn't like any flu I've EVER had.
I can't even put into words how bad my stomach hurt.
I can honestly say it was ALMOST as bad as labor...and that was bad.
The fact that it lasted for 2 days straight
and I had no sweet baby to show for it in the end,
well, that made it much WORSE!

Friday:

Today I am extremely grateful for everyone
that stopped their lives to get me through my week.
My sisterfriends
(I have to borrow that from one of my favorite people)
really saved me.
Anji watched my kids all afternoon Monday.
Julia took Audrey to and from school every day and let her play.
Kammie took my Lauren to pre-school and then let her play
until we could get her,
Michelle took me to the Instacare...and brought us dinner Tuesday.
Then there's my mom...she went to the store for me.
And of course, Adam...who took care of me, the house, and our girls.
I am so grateful and comforted to know
that when my little piece of the world falls apart for a while,
(or I just fall right off of it!)
I'm surrounded by people who help to keep it together.

And...I'm grateful to feel like me again!
And make it back home to Utah.
Welcome back to the face of the earth Rachel.

That stinks! Ughh! I get awful stomach pains like that when I am dehyddrated and haven't taken care of myself by drinking enough fluids. Although mine haven't lasted for more than a day, but they have come and gone for a few days. I totally know what you mean though about it feeling almost as bad as labor. So sorry that happened to you! Hope everything is ok now.

Wow! That sounds truly awful!! I am so glad you are feeling better now, and am sorry you had to go through that! I am close too and would be happy to help if you need it again, but hopefully it will be for some reason FAR more pleasant and less painful!!!

I hope you are feeling better! My word, that sounds like it was horrible! Thanks for your kind comment on my blog, I certainly don't feel very amazing. It made my day to have you say that :)

Are you gals coming to the Butch Cassidy in November???

Due! Sorry I didn't know Rachel! I love your girls and would have loved the chance to pitch in! Not sure highlights or a trim would have done much for the food poisoning but I could have helped with your princesses. I am grateful you got over it! A man in my folks ward died last week when he was throwing up and aspirated stomach acid into one lung. The acid ate some lung tissue and caused an infection! So grateful you got over it! Can't wait to see you tomorrow! Kari
p.s. Would it be okay if I gave Simon your blog info so he can see the pics of the Machine Gun Fire? He asked about it.
